From Hawai’i to Asheville

Huli Sue’s BBQ and Grill will be opening its doors for the first time in the summer of 2021 in downtown Asheville.

The sister restaurant of The Fish and The Hog in the upcountry cowboy town of Waimea on the Big Island of Hawai’i, Huli Sue’s celebrates Hawai’i’s affinity for all things southern, and the mainland’s love of Hawai’i through their respective cultures and blending of cuisines.

Making its first East Coast home in the iconic Grove Arcade, Huli Sue’s guests will enjoy a full-service bar with counter stools, indoor and outdoor seating during good weather, take-out, and catering menus plus a full line of branded merchandise and food products.

2 story high ceilings, exposed aged concrete walls, cane backed chairs, a warm honey colored bar and tabletops adorned with fresh cut flowers will create an inviting and unpretentious airy dining space reminiscent of breezy seaside gathering locales.

Our menu offers down home gourmet dishes sourced from ranchers to fishermen to farmers and everything in between with an emphasis on tropical bright flavors and good old fashion scratch cooking processes. Texas inspired BBQ will be served alongside sustainably caught and prepared island style fresh fish dishes, locally sourced salads and seasonal vegetables, house made oversized country cakes and pies all big enough to share in the ohana (family) tradition.

Our beverage list highlights Asheville’s passion for beer and ciders, locally made sodas, fresh fruit juices, lemonades, wines and festive cocktails such as Matais and Lava Flows.

At Huli Sue’s we aim to create a microcosm of good friends and family, always passing on value added products to ourguests and taking care of our staff as they take care of us all with the renowned southern hospitality and the all-encompassing aloha spirit of Hawai’i.

“Using only the highest quality food sources with zero shortcuts regardless of effort or cost and an extreme dedication to detail is paramount to our success,” says Pitmaster and Co-Owner Ben Krueger.

Partner and co-owner Lisa Vann adds “Huli Sue’s is a feel-good lifestyle dining choice where everyone knows your name, expectations are exceeded, and guests will want to come back again and again and again. With loyalty and family coming first, sales will naturally follow”.

Ben and Lisa are thrilled to join the utterly unique and welcoming town of Asheville. Having lived across the states and worldwide, they hope to be a joyful addition with positive influences to the “WEIRD and STRONG” local community they have fallen for in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
